Royal Engineers visit Colcrete Eurodrill
In a visit arranged with the Ministry of Defence, Colcrete Eurodrill were pleased to welcome W/O Gareth Owen and six of his team from 521 Specialist Team Royal Engineers (STRE) to observe how the firm manufactures the products they use around the world, most recently in Sierra Leone and Cyprus.
The 521STRE Team are specialist well drillers and are sometimes deployed as part of the UN force responsible for improving clean water supplies to civilian populations, and when called for, by the military in places such as Afghanistan.
After a short presentation of Colcrete Eurodrill by Peter Weinrich, Commercial Manager, the team members were given a tour of the factory by Ben Howarth, where they watched drill rods being friction welded, and casing being cut and threaded. After a quick look around the stockyard and goods outward section, the group moved on to the fabrication area, where Colcrete mixers and pumps are manufactured.
The two product lines are quite different, Colcrete products require a significant amount of plasma cutting, fabrication, welding, painting etc., whereas Eurodrill products are largely made from high grade steel bar and casing, requiring thread cutting and friction welding.
Gareth and the team were very impressed by what they saw, especially in the variety of products, and the many disciplines and machines necessary to make such a wide range of equipment.
