GDC performs ground stabilisation work for a new supermarket in Clay Cross, Derbyshire
Work started in earnest towards the end of March on the site of the old Hausherr factory, situated on the main Alfreton to Chesterfield road, in preparation for construction of a new supermarket for Clay Cross.
Groundsource Drilling and Contracting Ltd (GDC), a specialist drilling contractor, was engaged to perform drilling and grouting on the 2 acre site, in order to stabilise the ground where a brand new super store will be finished later this year.
The job involved the consolidation of ironstone workings (drill and grout injection) to an average depth of circa 16m prior to re-development of the land. In total, 250 holes needed to be drilled, using a Casagrande C6 rig.
“GDC Ltd is a valued customer of Colcrete Eurodrill, and we are delighted our drill rods helped to complete the work ahead of schedule.” commented Peter Weinrich, Commercial Manager, Colcrete Eurodrill.
Ian Wicks, Director at GDC remarked “ We were very happy with the drill rods, and look forward to future co-operation on projects with Colcrete Eurodrill.”
The site of the new supermarket coincidentally is directly across the road from the Colcrete Eurodrill offices.
“I don’t remember a drilling project using our equipment so close to home before, and it’s been interesting for our people to see how their drill rods are used!” said Peter.
Work was carried out using 2 3/8” Reg thread, 76mm x 3M drill rods with extended tool joints.
